Helping to deliver self-reliance and hope to refugees and displaced people by grant giving.

For 60 years Ockenden International has promoted self-reliance
among refugees and displaced people, helping them back from
war, famine and pestilence in the most remote places on earth.

Our simple objectives as a grant giving organisation are to
promote excellence in development programmes and to help
NGOs and charities with best practice in self-reliance.

Even a few pounds or dollars can make a huge difference among
displaced people. Ockenden International will direct its funds
towards what is known as "capacity building."

Capacity building to us means giving people their lives back
through funding training schemes in simple crafts, micro credit
facilities and practical transforming projects such as cow banks.
What seem like relatively small sums to people living comfortably
in the western countries can help to build local economies in the
developing world.

We will, as we have in the past, support efforts among displaced
people in the most difficult and insecure places, long after the TV
crews have departed and world headlines disappeared.
We will support projects where the vast majority of funding goes
directly to the people in need.
